Civic Receptions

The Assistant Town Clerk is responsible for managing the Mayor’s and Deputy Mayor’s diaries and organising civic receptions.

The Mayors Civic Service is held in October and the Civic Carol Service in December. In addition the Mayor will represent the Town at many special occasions that will be officially commemorated and celebrated through the year. These may be regular events such as the Remembrance Day Parade or one-off events such as the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012 and Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

The Mayor of March received a plaque on behalf of the Townsfolk of March to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The plaque was donated by William Kent Memorials and was fixed to a pillar of the town bridge. The commemorative plaque for the Platinum Jubilee was designed and created by Turner & Sons of March and is affixed to the Town Hall.

There are also many local activities and events that celebrate the efforts and successes of local people and organisations – these all deserve to be recognised and promoted.

Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day or Poppy Day is the day when the dead of two World Wars and other armed conflicts are remembered in the UK.

The Armistice at the end of the First World War of 1914 – 1918 was signed near Compiègne, France on 11th November 1918 at precisely 11.00 am – the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

For this reason, Remembrance Day is on the 11th of November each year although church services and many parades are held on the Sunday nearest that date.

On behalf of the Mayor, March Town Council and the citizens of March, the March Branch of the Royal British Legion organises the March Town Remembrance Parade.
