As from Monday 10 August, Cambridgeshire County Council will begin work on an innovative trial aimed at tackling the long-standing challenge of maintaining roads built on peat and other weak soils.
The soil affected roads innovation trial is now entering its construction phase on the B1099 Upwell Road in March, Cambridgeshire, where a section of road near the junction with the B1098 (Sixteen Foot Bank) will be used to test a range of pioneering engineering solutions in real-world conditions.
March Town Council aims to promote the development of community, social, cultural and sport opportunities within the area of March. To this end, the Council offer grants to local organisations based in, or providing services to the locality of March to help them maintain and develop their services, facilities, and activities.
Application Forms for the next round of funding must be returned by 1 September 2026.
Cambridgeshire County Council The Causeway, March (Temporary Prohibition Of Through Traffic) Order 2026-21142
NOTICE is given that Cambridgeshire County Council intends to make an Order pursuant to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which is to stop any vehicle from proceeding along The Causeway, March as lies between Causeway Close and St. Peters Road. Access will be maintained to properties affected by this order.
The alternative route for vehicles is via B1099; B1098; B1093; A141; B1101 and vice versa.

It is anticipated that these works will take place between 10 September and 17 September 2026, when the restriction is expected to be in operation. The Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months from the date it comes into effect to permit the works and any associated contingencies including delays or phased delivery of the works. The Order shall not apply to any persons lawfully engaged in connection with any works for which it is made, any member of the Police Force, Fire and Rescue Service, Ambulance Service, a vehicle being used by Special Forces during the execution of their duties or to any person acting with the permission or upon the direction of a Police Officer in uniform.
